1980 — The late Clarence Mason purchased a top-selling bull in hopes of starting the best herd of cows in South Dakota. David helped make his father’s dream a reality, working on the farm his whole life to become a master stockman, farmer, and cattle feeder.
1989 — We attended our first Annual Bull Sale, where people come from near and far to purchase herd bulls with the highest quality health, management, selection, and genetics. Thirty-five years later, we’re preparing for our 35th Annual Bull Sale.
2000 – South Central Cattleman’s Association names Clarance Mason Cattleman of the Year .
2015 — Mason family named Charolais Family of the Year.
2018 — David Mason awarded Producer of the Year by the South Central Cattleman’s Association.
2024 — S.D. Charolais Breeders Association recognizes Prairie Valley Farm Inc. as Seedstock Producer of the Year.
David’s father began with one bull. Since then, our Charolais herd has grown to include 200 spring cows and 100 fall cows. We’re a family business operating on hard work and lifelong experience in stewarding the cattle and the land.
We manage our cows to express their full genetic potential, and we approach every sale with honesty. When you purchase from Prairie Valley, you’re getting a bull that’s been fed, bred, and managed with expert care.
When he’s not working, David enjoys attending the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and the College World Series in Omaha, and spending quality non-farm-time with his family.
